Woman Arrested for DUI After Collision with Telephone Pole

A woman was arrested and charged with driving under the influence (DUI) after her vehicle collided with a telephone pole in the city. According to the police report, Kayce L. Underhill, 30, was traveling north on 1 Ave S when she attempted to merge into the left lane, overcorrected, and struck the pole.
Underhill, who was prescribed Suboxone, claimed she had not taken any medication that day and did not consume any alcohol or narcotics. However, she appeared to be disoriented and dozed off multiple times during her interaction with the arresting officer. A search of her vehicle yielded a vape pen, two pill bottles containing Clonazepam, and three pre-rolled marijuana joints.
Underhill was transported to Harborview Medical Center after becoming unresponsive and had to be intubated. A blood sample was collected and submitted as evidence. She was booked into jail and faces charges of DUI-drugs/liquor. The incident occurred on July 1, 2023, at approximately 15:10 hours, and was investigated by Officer Lukus Pilkington and screened by Sgt. Justin Odell.
