Man Arrested for DUI After Collision with Train

A man identified as Michael Harold Suzuki was arrested on January 22, 2024, after a vehicle collision involving a train at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Way South and South Trenton Street. The collision blocked northbound traffic in the area.

According to Officer Jonathan Kennedy of the police department, Suzuki was driving his pickup truck on the train tracks when his vehicle collided with an oncoming train. The train operator, Adan Abdiwahab, reported that Suzuki appeared to attempt to move out of the train's path but was unable to avoid the collision.

Suzuki, who was identified as smelling of alcohol, refused to undergo a field sobriety test and admitted to having consumed two beers. He showed difficulty in maintaining his balance and was consequently arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Upon searching Suzuki's person, officers found cannabis, although Suzuki claimed he had not smoked any that evening. Further, it was discovered that Suzuki had a prior misdemeanor warrant for driving while intoxicated, and his driver's license was suspended.

Following his arrest, a search warrant was obtained to conduct a blood test, which was carried out at a local hospital. Suzuki was later booked into the King County Jail without further incident. Evidence collected included a blood kit and cannabis found on Suzuki during the arrest.
