Trespassing Incident at Seattle Community Center Leads to Arrest

On February 14, 2025, at approximately 14:39, officers from the Seattle Police Department responded to a report of trespassing at the Miller Community Center located at 330 19th Ave E, Seattle, WA. The suspect had reportedly been continuously sleeping on the rooftop of the community center.
Upon arrival, officers spoke to Daryl Look, the Senior Coordinator of the facility, who requested the trespasser be removed from the property. Officers accessed the rooftop via a ladder inside the building, where they encountered the suspect hiding near an HVAC unit.
The suspect initially identified himself as Louis Sullivan, but officers suspected he was providing a false identity. After several attempts to ascertain his real name, the suspect was asked to safely exit the rooftop. In a safer location, officers placed him in handcuffs and informed him of the arrest.
As officers attempted to take him into custody, the suspect resisted by pulling away, attempting to flee, and defying police control. Additional units were called to assist, and the suspect was eventually subdued and identified as Luis A. Petla through routine checks.
Petla, previously wanted on a misdemeanor warrant for assault with no bail set, was charged with trespassing and obstruction. His belongings, found soiled with an unknown substance, were largely disposed of except for three cellphones and a charger, which were stored for safekeeping at the precinct.
The incident was reviewed and screened by Sgt. Eastman and involved other officers to ensure the safety of all parties involved. Petla was subsequently transported and booked into the King County Jail.
