DUI Arrest Follows Police Pursuit

An unusual police pursuit unfolded on June 18, 2023, involving Mario Colton Giorgianni, who was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The incident began when Officer Maryam Abasbarzy, responding to a domestic violence call, noticed Giorgianni following her patrol vehicle in a red Mazda, honking and shouting obscenities.

Despite Officer Abasbarzy's lights and sirens, the Mazda continued to tail her for over 20 blocks. Police eventually stopped the vehicle at Martin Luther King Jr. Way and E Fir Street. Officer Jose Jimenez joined the scene, where Giorgianni was found with constricted pupils, a possible sign of opiate intoxication.

Giorgianni refused to undergo a field sobriety test but was detained without further incident. His erratic behavior, along with watery, bloodshot eyes, led officers to suspect impairment from drugs or alcohol. He was transported to a local hospital for blood tests and subsequently booked into King County Jail.

The persistent following behavior, despite police directives, and attempts to report the officer's driving, underscore the complex interactions during incidents of suspected DUI. The ongoing investigation will determine Giorgianni's legal consequences.
