Driver Arrested for Intoxicated Incident with Utility Pole

In the early hours of May 11, 2024, law enforcement officers responded to a call regarding a possible DUI incident near the intersection of 1st Ave N and John St. The suspect, Julio Salinas Donohue, openly admitted to driving under the influence when approached by the officers.

The officers noted that Donohue appeared visibly intoxicated, demonstrating an inability to maintain his balance and displaying symptoms such as red and watery eyes. An open can of beer was found on the floor of his vehicle, reinforcing his admission.

The incident report revealed that Donohue had crashed into a city utility pole, causing damage to a pedestrian traffic post. Witnesses provided cell phone footage showing Donohue driving the wrong way on a one-way street before the collision occurred.

Given the evidence, including witnesses' accounts and observed damage, officers arrested Donohue for physical control while intoxicated. He underwent and consented to a breath test which confirmed he was over the legal alcohol limit.

After processing at the precinct, Donohue was released with a citation and DUI information. The involved vehicle was impounded according to the department's DUI protocol. The case highlights the risks associated with drunk driving and serves as a cautionary tale for drivers.
