Domestic Dispute Leads to Arrest of Local Woman

A woman was arrested following a domestic disturbance at a residence on 17th Avenue Northeast late Thursday evening. The authorities were called to the scene where Caroline Kanaga was reported to have physically assaulted her husband Kyle Kanaga.
Police officers arrived at the location following a call indicating that Kyle's wife was attacking him with her hands. Officer David Bailey and his partner spoke to both parties involved in the altercation to understand the sequence of events. According to Kyle, an intervention had been planned for Caroline due to her suspected mental health issues, but it led to a physical confrontation after she rejected the intervention and demanded access to Kyle's phone.
Caroline acknowledged making an attempt to grab her husband's phone, asserting that she believed he was hiding something from her. However, she denied any physical altercation beyond that. Kyle, on the other hand, reported being tackled and receiving scratches during the incident, though he declined medical assistance.
Caroline was arrested on charges of fourth-degree assault. She was taken into custody without incident and transported to King County Jail. The incident was recorded on body-worn video cameras by the responding officers.
Both Kyle and Caroline Kanaga have been married since 2019 and share two children. The incident raises concerns about potential undiagnosed mental health issues, with recommendations for the case to be referred to mental health court.
