Assault Incident at Harborview Medical Center

In a recent incident at Harborview Medical Center, a patient identified as Devone Foucha was involved in an altercation with hospital staff. The episode occurred in the Psychiatric Unit, prompting police intervention after reports of assault were made by medical personnel.

At around midnight on March 13, 2025, nurses reported that Foucha, who had been admitted due to suicidal ideations, attempted to physically assault them during a routine pat-down. The involved staff included Nurse Raymond Flanigan and Mental Health Professional Ronda Yager. According to their accounts, Foucha engaged in aggressive behavior, including spitting on Yager and nearly headbutting Flanigan.

The healthcare providers described the patient as mentally competent, suggesting the actions were intentional and not a result of mental instability. There was no security camera footage available, as the psychiatric unit lacks surveillance equipment.

Officer David Astorita, who responded to the call, assessed the situation and after interviewing the involved parties, determined there was probable cause for arrest. Foucha was charged with Assault 3, comprising two counts, and was subsequently transported to King County Jail.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding safety and security within hospital psychiatric units, especially when dealing with potentially volatile situations where surveillance is minimal. This case is currently under further review by the authorities.
