Seattle Woman Arrested for Property Damage After Emotional Crisis

In the early hours of March 11, 2025, Seattle Police Officer Sierra Rambo responded to a call at the intersection of 15th Ave NW and NW Market St, where a woman in apparent distress was reported to have thrown a rock through a vehicle window. The police report detailed an emotional episode involving Candis K. Clayton, who was visibly agitated and claimed she believed her children were in danger.

The incident unfolded when officers were dispatched to the scene after a man, later identified as Abdirizak Hassan, reported the damage to his vehicle. Hassan alleged that Clayton threw a rock at his car, creating a sizable hole in the rear window. Despite her turbulent state, Clayton reportedly expressed remorse for the damage caused.

Officer Rambo confirmed Clayton's identity through a King County booking photo, as the woman was not initially under arrest. Following the altercation, police found probable cause to detain Clayton for property damage under Seattle Municipal Code 12.08.020.

Clayton was taken into custody after being read her Miranda rights, although she did not acknowledge them. She was transported to the King County Jail. Officer Rambo recommended Clayton receive mental health court evaluation prior to her release, considering her condition during the arrest.

The incident was recorded by body-worn cameras and has highlighted ongoing concerns around mental health crises in public spaces. Authorities continue to address the importance of appropriate response measures in such situations.
