Seattle Man Arrested for Shoplifting at Nordstrom Rack

A shoplifting incident at the Nordstrom Rack located at 401 NE Northgate Way, Seattle, ended in the arrest of a man on the afternoon of February 14, 2025. The Seattle Police Department responded to a call regarding an uncooperative shoplifter in custody who was reportedly experiencing heart problems.
Upon arrival, officers were informed by loss prevention staff that the suspect, identified as Dane B. Guntle, had attempted to trade his old shoes for a new pair. When the store declined his demand, Guntle reportedly threatened to steal them and proceeded to do so.
Caleb, a loss prevention officer, witnessed Guntle exit the store with the stolen shoes and was pushed by Guntle when he attempted to intervene. Additional security personnel arrived, and a struggle ensued as they tried to detain Guntle, resulting in minor injuries to Caleb's hand.
Guntle was eventually subdued and handcuffed, during which time he made several threats of violence, including mentioning that they were 'lucky he didn't bring his gun.' Despite being restrained to a bench, Guntle continued to resist, attempting to remove the straps and refusing to provide identification.
The assisting officer, Jordan Wallace, arrested Guntle on charges of theft and an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for criminal trespass and obstruction of a police officer. During the arrest, police discovered a glass pipe used for inhaling crystal methamphetamine in Guntle's possession.
Guntle was transported to the King County Jail, where the arrest was screened by Sergeant Sullivan. The incident has been recommended for referral to mental health court due to Guntle's behavior, which he attributed to personal issues, including job loss and familial struggles.
