Seattle Man Arrested in Domestic Violence Incident Involving Scissors

A Seattle man was arrested for domestic violence assault after allegedly attacking his wife with a pair of scissors. On February 15, 2025, at approximately 3:12 a.m., Seattle Police responded to an assault call at an apartment on 8th Avenue, following reports from a Spanish interpreter who relayed that Karla A Candelo Gongora was physically threatened by her husband, Luis C Reyes Mosquera.

When officers arrived, they found Reyes in the apartment lobby with an abrasion on his right foot, while his wife, Candelo, was discovered on the 8th floor with cuts on her right hand, neck, and an abrasion on her back. The incident reportedly took place after an argument ensued following the departure of friends who had been visiting the couple's residence. The argument devolved when Reyes allegedly sought a knife in the kitchen before resorting to a pair of scissors to confront Candelo, who defended herself.

According to the police report, Candelo managed to escape the confrontation, seeking help by banging on neighbors' doors and eventually calling 911. During the altercation, their 6-year-old daughter remained asleep and unharmed. Officers collected evidence from the scene, including the scissors and a knife found next to them.

Reyes, who claims he was trying to scare Candelo, was arrested and charged with first-degree domestic violence assault. The Seattle Fire Department provided medical aid at the scene, and Reyes was taken to King County Jail after being screened by Sgt. Beatty at the East Precinct.
